Declaring the Word of God Daily

Updated: Oct 21, 2020

Why is it important to declare the Word of God each day? Here are five basic reasons to do so:

1) When you declare Bible scripture verses at the beginning of each day, you allow God to be involved in your day from the very start of it. When you speak God’s Word it allows the Holy Spirit to perform what has been spoken.

If you look at the account of creation found in Genesis 1, you will find the Holy Spirit hovering over the waters. When God spoke, the Holy Spirit went into action to create what God wanted done.

In Jeremiah 1:12 we find God saying to Jeremiah, “…I am ready to perform My word.”(NKJV). In the King James translation it states, “…for I will hasten My word to perform it.” In the Amplified version it states, “…for I am (actively) watching over My word to fulfill it.”

When we speak God’s Word, God can legally allow the Holy Spirit to perform what we have declared. When we don’t speak anything we leave a vacuum which the devil will invade and perform his will to “steal, kill, and destroy” our day.

2) By declaring God’s Word first, we set the tone for the day. We become pro-active so that we make the day line up with the will of God for us. When we don’t say anything, it allows the devil to control our day and we become reactive to our circumstances.

Since each day we live is a spiritual battle. When we declare the Word of God at the

start of each day we are really going on the offensive against the devil rather than being

on the defensive. Being on the defensive will not allow you to win the battle.

As we proclaim God’s Word we go on the offensive, bringing the battle to the devil,

putting the pressure on him rather than him putting the pressure on us. We use the Word

of God as a “Sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17), inflicting damage to the devil in his

realm of existence before he acts upon us.

Swing the Sword of the Spirit as many times as you can. Although you cannot see the

results in the spiritual realm, you can be sure that God is behind the scenes working to

bring His word to pass.

3) Correct focus is obtained when we declare God’s Word. The circumstances which the devil throws against us become our secondary since our focus first is on the destiny God has for us.

Psalm 119:105 states, “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.” The

Word of God allows us to take each step without falling into the traps of the devil and it

guides us to the destiny God desires for us.

By quoting the Word of God we will not be misled away from the path of truth as it

will become established in our heart. Then, when the devil uses false teachings to take

us off of our walk of faith in God, we will be able to discern it and stay on the

straight and narrow way of truth, which leads to life.

4) Our success in what God has called us to do is guaranteed when we declare and meditate on His Word. In Joshua 1:7&8 we find the Lord telling Joshua, “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

5) Our life becomes an abundant life, full of joy and peace because we focus on our God and the promises of His Word. We are not caught up in the negative demonic thoughts which the devil throws into our mind. We fill our mind with positive thoughts from God’s Word.

Our positive thoughts which come from God’s Word will cancel out the negative thoughts from the devil. We can use the Word of God to do as the apostle Paul wrote in II Corinthians 10:5, “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”.

One of the most important things to remember about declaring the Word of God is that you are doing it by faith, believing God will act, expecting Him to answer, and you receiving what you declared.

The book of Hebrews talks about a place of rest that God has provided for the people of God. This rest is a place of trusting that God will fulfill His Word (Isaiah 55:10&11; Psalm 33:9).

Hebrews 4:1-3 states, “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: ‘So I swore in My wrath, “they shall not enter My rest,”’ although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”

God has made provision for every need you will have while here on Earth, before you even knew you would have the need. Your declaration of faith of the Word of God will bring that provision to manifest itself against your need, as long as you expect it.

So what should I proclaim each day? Is there any specific verse I should declare each day? I would say that it depends upon what you are facing each day, or expect to face each day.

Since were are engaged daily in a spiritual battle with the devil, the first thing you might declare that you put on each day is the armor of God, found in Ephesians 6:14-17.

You could also declare Psalm 91 in the face of an enemy attached, be it physical, like war and disease, or be it spiritual, like from demonic oppression.

If finances is an issue, and you have tithed, then you could declare Malachi 3:10&11.

If it is some kind of provision that you need, then you could quote Psalm 23, or Psalm 37:25.

You may want a desire of your heart to come to pass, then declare Psalm 37:4&5.

It may that you need direction for the day, then you could declare Proverbs 3:5&6.

If it is healing that you need, then you could quote Isaiah 53:5, and/or I Peter 2:24.

It doesn’t end with these examples. Whatever need you may have God has made provision by His Word to answer them, through Jesus Christ. Paul wrote in II Corinthians 1:20, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”

Don’t limit your declaration to just a few verses. Cover a much ground as you can, in every area of your life, so that the devil cannot gain any spiritual territory.

Nor should you limit you declaration of God’s Word just at the start of the day. Declare it all day long. Don’t give the devil any room to work. The more you declare God’s Word the more established it will be in your heart and the more faith you will have in it.

Do like God instructed the children of Israel concerning the teaching of His law, found in Deuteronomy 6:6-9, in which God basically tells Israel to teach their children the law at every opportunity in the day, all day long. So you should do the same by declaring the Word of God all day long.

Remember this: God can only work according to His Word if we proclaim it. As ambassadors for Christ, we have to use our authority and speak His Word in order to allow Him legal access to work, according to His Word, in our realm. So give God ample opportunity to work by saturating your day in the declaration of the Word of God.
